Namib Desert Challenge (NDC) is one of the toughest footraces in the World: 220km over 5 days, 5 stages of high-endurance ultra running.

Self Sufficient Untouched
Competitors carry their kit and food in their backpacks during the ultimate African Adventure. It is a self sufficient event so you are on your own when it comes to food and equipment.  
The 3rd edition of the Namib Desert Challenge will continue to take competitors through untouched areas which are strictly off limits to the public. Special permissions have been obtained and to minimize the impact on the environment, we have a maximum limit of 80 competitors.
Challenging Terrain Breathtaking Surroundings

NDC will take competitors through some of the most remote areas in Africa. Competitors will challenge each other over hilly terrain, between mountains, across valleys, over dunes and through dry river beds.

Competitors will race to the Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, which is a huge clay-pan, enclosed by mighty sand dunes. Some of the spectacular dunes reach a height of 300 metres and are of the highest in the world. Wind continually reshapes the patterns of the huge dunes. At sunrise and sunset the colours of the dunes are strong and constantly changing.

  

Sossusvlei is a clay pan in the central Namib Desert, lying within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia. Namib Naukluft Park is the largest game park in Africa (40 000 sq. km) and fourth largest in the world.

Fed by the Tsauchab River, it is known for the high, red sand dunes which surround it forming a major sand sea. Vegetation, such as the camel thorn tree, is watered by infrequent floods of the Tsauchab River, which slowly soak into the underlying clay.
 
Extreme Conditions

Temperatures will reach in excess of 35 degrees Celsius – this challenge is definitely for the experienced ultra runner.

Only the toughest will make it to the finish!
